The Treatment of Fracture-separation of the Capitular Epiphysis.

چکیده

It has long been recognised that displaced fractures of the capitular epiphysis in children are prone to non-union and late deformity unless accurate reduction is obtained. Good results have been reported from conservative treatment (Kini 1942, McLearie and Merson 1954), but it is generally accepted that to obtain the best results open reduction is necessary. Some form of internal fixation is also advisable to prevent the pull of the common extensor muscles redisplacing the fragment. Internal fixation may be by suture of the extensor origin to the periosteum of the proximal fragment (Badger 1954, Watson-Jones 1955), or by fixation with screws or wire (Jeffery 1955, 1957, 1958; Wilson 1955). The present review was undertaken to determine if there was, in fact, any difference in the result obtained by the use of either soft-tissue suture or metallic fixation.

Premature Epiphysial Fusion after Injury of the Capitulum.

It is well known that injury ofthe capitulum is both common and important in childhood. Although much has been written on the subject, the frequency and importance of premature fusion of the epiphysis has not been fully appreciated. Clinical material-Twenty-eight children suffering from injury to the capitular epiphysis were reviewed. The age at the time of injury varied from three to twelve ye...

Deformity after internal fixation of fracture separation of the medial epicondyle of the humerus.

We reviewed 24 displaced fractures through the physis of the medial epicondyle of the distal humerus. One was a Salter-Harris type-II fracture-separation of the whole distal humeral epiphysis; the others involved only the medial epicondylar centre of ossification. Two cases had presented as pseudarthroses. One fracture had been treated closed in a plaster slab and 21 had had open reduction and ...

Detection and treatment of traumatic separation of the distal humeral epiphysis in a neonate: a case report.

Traumatic separation of the distal humeral epiphysis during delivery is an uncommon injury in neonates and usually mimics elbow dislocation. Emergency medicine physicians and orthopedic surgeons must have a high index of suspicion for distal humeral epiphysis separation when evaluating elbow trauma in neonates. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan is an important diagnostic tool for this purpo...

Fracture-separation of the distal humeral epiphysis.

We have reviewed 12 cases of fracture-separation of the distal humeral epiphysis, three of which were initially misdiagnosed as fractures of the lateral condyle and one as an elbow dislocation. Cubitus varus deformity is as common after this fracture-separation as it is following supracondylar fracture, and is most common in children under two years of age. Closed reduction and simple immobilis...

Injuries to the lateral condyle epiphysis of the humerus in children.

This article deals with the mechanism of production and the method of reduction of injuries of the lateral condvlar epiphysis of the humerus. These injuries are usually described as affecting the capitulum, but, as noted by Roberts (1936) and Watson-Jones (1943), the detached fragment consists of the capitular epiphysis and the lateral third of the trochlea with a fragment (common to all epiphy...
